Preparing your CSV file

The import is a simple process but you must first make sure that your CSV file is a valid CSV format so that you minimize potential import failures. Valid refers to the following:

1.

To check the validity of your CSV file, open the new file from a plain-text reading program such as Notepad. Check to make sure there are no extra commas, other than between fields. You will also need to remove any extra quotation marks or other formatting which Excel may have inserted.

2.

Can the Columns in your CSV file map to fields in ManagePro? If not, customization may be required. See Customize Fields, Overview and your ManagePro Administrator, or contact mis@managepro.com. In general, your CSV Columns that contain  text should map to ManagePro text fields, and the same is true for date, and number fields. If your CSV Column does not exist in the ManagePro View or can not be mapped to an equivalent ManagePro field, then simple configuration is necessary

3.

Do you need to import data such as Todos and associate them to existing Related Goal records in ManagePro? If so then the related goals in your CSV file must match the way they are named in the Title column in ManagePro. In other words, don't use acronyms or abbreviations in your CSV file instead use the same name as entered in ManagePro, otherwise, this data may fail to import. For example, Goal in ManagePro is named By The Way, Inc. and name in CSV file is BTW. The name BTW will fail to import unless a unique ID is assigned (more about this later).

4.

What View in ManagePro do you want this data imported to? If the View already exists, and your CSV column header names can be mapped to ManagePro fields, that's great and you are ready to import. If not, see View Configuration and your ManagePro Administrator or contact mis@managepro.com.

5.

How many other people in your organization are importing data and how much data? It's strongly recommended that imports containing over 100 new records be discussed with your ManagePro or IT Administrator in environments where ManagePro Plus editions are installed so that considerations to potential impacts on synchronization are discussed.

6.

Do you need to update existing data in ManagePro with data from external programs? If so, have you created a unique ID field in ManagePro and assigned a unique ID number to all records where data will be updated from the import? If not, this must occur prior to the import, otherwise the import will fail to update existing records.
