Drag and Drop, Overview

Top  Previous  Next

Drag and Drop is a feature and method used to pull email messages from MS Outlook to ManagePro and convert them as a Todo, Event, Progress Update or Document directly in ManagePro. This is an effective way to collaborate and share information with others and eliminates the need to copy and paste from email messages.

Below we list the ways by which Drag and Drop can be used in Mpro.

1.

Drag and Drop directly onto goals and sub-goals: Use this method when associating an Outlook message to an existing goal or sub-goal in ManagePro. You can convert items as Todos, Events, Progress Updates or Documents. This way, all of your pertinent correspondence, updates and documents are directly linked with projects and tasks allowing others who have access visibility to these items.

2.

Drag and Drop directly onto the Mpro Calendar and create a Todo or Event. Use this method when you would like to create a stand-alone Todo or Event in a specific time slot in your calendar. You can also link Todo's or Events to existing Mpro records.

3.

Drag and Drop items directly onto the tabs (Todo, Event or Progress Updates) found in the ManagePro User data/List window: Use this Option if you would like to 1) create stand-alone Todo's and Events, or 2) create Todos and Events and link them to existing records in ManagePro. This option is useful for example, when you are receiving task assignments as email messages and drag and dropping them directly as a Todo or Event eliminates the need to copy and paste information from Outlook into Mpro.  then drag them directly into Mpro and create a Todo or Event.

4.

Drag and Drop Emails with Attachments: If an Outlook Message has an attachment, the attachment will also be converted when drag and drop the item. In this case, you can convert the item to a progress update, todo, event or document.

5.

Drag and Drop onto the People and Meetings tab: MS Outlook messages with or without attachments can be dragged onto the People and Meetings tab. The items can be dropped as Notes, Documents, Feedback or Recognition. This can be especially useful when planning for performance reviews. Let's say you want to capture feedback comments and recognition comments for employees sent by email, by dragging the messages directly into Mpro as Feedback and Recognition you can easily and quickly reference this correspondence rather than combing through your email in-box.

6.

Drag and Drop Records From One Section of the Tree to Another: This method might be used in cases where reorganization of records in the tree is necessary or you simply want to move records to another location in the tree.

Before we get started with instructions on the points above, which are found in the next few pages, please review the two points below.

Before you begin using the drag and drop feature with email, 1) please ensure that your ManagePro Email preferences are set and 2) you or your Mpro Administrator has entered your email address in your "people" record. Here's how to achieve both:

Working with Outlook Email Formats

Default Email Format Settings have an impact on whether or not email headings (To and From) are included in Email Messages after dragging and dropping to ManagePro. In general, HTML formatted messages will include the email header after dragging and dropping from Outlook to MP as a progress update and Plain and Rich Text formats do not.

If you want the email headings to be included after the conversion of the email to ManagePro, ensure that you select HTML format when creating or replying to an email.

These are examples of formatting. Notice the second progress record below includes the email header.
